Policies

1. Digital Preservation Policy

This journal uses the LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, and PKP PN systems to create a distributed archiving system among collaborating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives for preservation and restoration purposes.

Additionally:

Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis aims to digitally preserve all hosted documents in the long term. To achieve this, it implements an action plan that includes basic measures to ensure the digital durability of scientific material:

  • Backups

  • Storage of documentation on servers and external storage devices

  • Conversion of files to safer formats

  • Periodic integrity checks of files to prevent corruption

  • Monitoring of the technological environment to anticipate possible format or software migrations due to obsolescence

  • Use of digital preservation metadata

  • Use of DOIs for newly published materials

For digital preservation purposes, the journal encourages the submission of documents in easily readable formats (such as PDF and EPUB). In the event that it is not possible to maintain the usability of all existing formats, the journal commits to returning the files to their authors.
The digital preservation policy will be reviewed annually by Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis.

2. Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle of offering free access to research and knowledge in order to foster a greater global exchange of information.

3. Quality Policies

a) Scientific medium for knowledge transfer

  • Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis has a prestigious editorial team composed of experts in the disciplines of its editorial line, who advise and evaluate publications, ensuring their scientific quality and international projection.

  • The journal serves as a publication platform for various research projects from centers, universities, and research groups and is managed by the Instituto Geográfico Militar and Universidad Bernardo O'Higgins.

  • The journal provides clear information to its authors and collaborators regarding the stages of article editing and publication (see the sections "Editing and Publication Stages" and "Code of Ethics"). Manuscripts are accepted for evaluation in both English and Spanish.

b) Editorial process quality

Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis has maintained rigorous periodicity in publishing its issues since its inception, with the objective of regularly publishing two volumes annually. It ensures coherence in both its editorial line and the thematic focus of its publications.

Articles are submitted confidentially and anonymously for double-blind review by referees (Scientific Committee), who issue a report on the suitability of publication, which will be considered by the Editorial Board and communicated to each author.
Reviewed works deemed publishable with modifications must be corrected and resubmitted by the authors, whether minor or major adjustments are requested. If necessary, the revised version will be sent again to external reviewers, repeating this process until the final acceptance of the article.

The journal will notify authors of editorial decisions, including the reasons for acceptance, revision, or rejection of the manuscript. A summary of the external reviewers' reports will also be provided.

c) Scientific content quality

The articles published in the journal are primarily aimed at the advancement and deepening of Earth sciences.

d) Plagiarism detection policy

The journal is committed to combating plagiarism. To this end:

  • Reviewers are invited to actively monitor for plagiarism during their evaluation.

  • Anti-plagiarism detection systems are made available and used

  • Readers who detect any instances of plagiarism are encouraged to report them to the journal, in case any issues have bypassed the filters or an error has occurred.

e) Author fees

There are no publication fees (article processing charges or APCs) for publishing in this journal.
