Ethical Code
This code is based on the principles of transparency and best practices in academic publications of the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics: http://publicationethics.org/). It is aimed at editors, reviewers, and authors, who will assume them with full commitment and responsibility upon becoming part of the journal:
1. EDITORIAL TEAM
-
Publication Decision: The selection of highly qualified reviewers with expertise in the subject matter will be guaranteed, ensuring a critical and expert evaluation of the work, minimizing potential biases.
-
Honesty: The evaluation of articles submitted for publication will be based on the scientific merit of the content in accordance with the journal's editorial policy.
-
Confidentiality: The journal is committed to not disclosing information relating to articles submitted for publication to individuals other than the authors, reviewers, and editors. Anonymity is a formula used to preserve the intellectual integrity of the entire process.
-
Conflict of Interest and Disclosure: Journal members commit not to use content from articles submitted for publication in their research without the author's written consent.
-
Editorial Process Timelines: The editorial team is committed to respecting the corresponding editorial processes for submitted works in accordance with the provisions of "ARTICLE EDITING AND PUBLICATION STAGES". In the event of delays due to force majeure, authors will be promptly informed.
2. REVIEWERS
-
Contribution to Editorial Decision: Individuals who undertake the commitment to evaluate submitted works must conduct a critical, constructive, and unbiased review, in order to guarantee the scientific and literary quality in their area of expertise.
-
Time Management: Reviewers commit to evaluating works in the shortest possible time, respecting the submission deadlines established by the Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis, with the aim of optimizing editorial management. If they do not feel competent in the subject matter or are unable to complete the evaluation within the established deadline, they must notify the editors immediately.
-
Objectivity: The review will be as objective as possible, without personal judgments about the authors. All assessments must be justified in a report that will be attached to the virtual platform. This report should be as comprehensive as possible so that authors clearly understand the suggested modifications or corrections, or, if the work is rejected, understand the reasons for this decision. Likewise, if any conflict of interest exists, the review of the work must be declined.
-
Confidentiality: Manuscripts are distributed anonymously. However, each assigned manuscript must be considered confidential. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed with other people without the express consent of the authors or the editors.
-
Visualization of Text or Bibliographic References: Reviewers commit to accurately indicating bibliographic references of fundamental works possibly overlooked by the author. The reviewer should also inform the editors of any similarities or overlaps of the manuscript with other published works.
-
Conflict of Interest and Disclosure: Confidential information or information obtained during the peer review process must be considered confidential and cannot be used for personal purposes. Reviewers only review a manuscript if there are no conflicts of interest.
3. AUTHORS
-
Originality and Plagiarism: All works submitted for publication must be unpublished, meaning that the authors of manuscripts submitted to the Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis ensure that the work is original, that it does not contain parts from other authors or fragments of works already published by the authors. Furthermore, they confirm the veracity of the data and results presented in the work, meaning they are original and there is no plagiarism, distortion, or manipulation of empirical data when used, or of the sources used to corroborate hypotheses or conjectures.
-
Commitment to Exclusivity: Works submitted to the Revista Geográfica de Chile Terra Australis may not have been simultaneously submitted to another journal for selection. Likewise, they may not contain, even partially, results already published in other articles.
-
List of Sources: The author must always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.
-
Authorship: In articles where more than one person has contributed, authorship must be prioritized based on responsibility and involvement in its preparation. Likewise, the inclusion of all individuals who have made significant scientific and intellectual contributions to the development of the research and the writing of the article must be guaranteed.
-
Access and Retention: The editorial team may request from the authors the data or sources on which the research was based, reserving the right to keep them for a reasonable time after publication. Likewise, it may request access for editorial review, ensuring at all times that the data is meticulously anonymized.
-
Conflict of Interest and Disclosure: All authors are obliged to explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that may have influenced the results obtained or the interpretations proposed. Authors must also indicate any funding from agencies and/or projects from which the research article originates.
-
Errors in Published Articles: Any relevant error or inaccuracy must be communicated to the editorial team so that they can make the necessary corrections, with the stage prior to the publication of accepted articles being the final instance for this (section "ARTICLE EDITING AND PUBLICATION STAGES", stage No. 5).
-
Responsibility: All authors accept responsibility for the content of their writings, both in form and substance. This must be supported by a rigorous analysis of the most current, serious, and relevant scientific sources in the field, as well as a well-founded discussion. The application of the scientific method is emphasized, avoiding the inclusion of value judgments in the texts.
