TRANSFORMATION OF INTERSTITIAL SPACES FOR INTEGRATION WITH THE URBAN FABRIC

Rapid urban growth in cities has generated the appearance of interstitial spaces, which are characterized by abandonment and lack of functional use, affecting social cohesion and quality of life. This study addresses the integration of these spaces in the El Santuario and Villa Los Sauces urbanizations, located in sector 37 of Chiclayo, Peru. The research seeks to develop urban strategies through the comparative analysis of urban theories that promote the regeneration of these spaces and improve their integration with the urban fabric. The research was carried out with a qualitative approach and is structured in two phases: In the first phase, key theories such as the Urban Network, Green Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility are analyzed, which are compared and contrasted through a documentary analysis. In the second phase, the urban integration strategies of similar cases are synthesized, applying them to the study context through an analysis of references. The proposed hypothesis maintains that the application of these theories can generate an effective integration of interstitial urban spaces, promoting social cohesion, environmental sustainability and a better quality of life for residents. The results obtained suggest that the regeneration of these spaces not only improves connectivity and accessibility, but also encourages the creation of ecological corridors and a more efficient public transport system. The conclusions highlight the importance of a comprehensive approach to transform interstitial spaces into key elements for sustainable and resilient urban development.
