Abstract

Chile during the last decade has experienced a mega drought that has affected central and northern Chile. This has caused a new record every year due to lack of rainfall. The predictions indicate that the mega-drought would continue with a decrease in rainfall and its associated effects of decreasing flows and water table levels in the different aquifers. The province of Chacabuco-Polpaico has been one of the most affected in the Central Zone, with the Huechún reservoir (Til Til) being one of the most critical points in the area, which is currently totally dry.

This is one of the main razon to start this research, where the effects on the aquifer and its variations in recent decades are analyzed in depth, considering hydrogeological elements, in addition to the changes that have occurred due to the over-exploitation of the resource. water in the Chacabuco-Polpaico aquifer sector.
