To achieve the design of a coastal management, measures according to the characteristics and priorities of each beach, it is essential to know each particular beach morphodynamics. In the present study, volumetric and sedimentary variations of beaches located in Mar del Sur and Miramar, coastal towns of the municipality of General Alvarado, were evaluated through topographic profiles and seasonal sedimentary samplings. In general, beach widths have increased in all the measured beaches, except in the south of the studied area, where it remained stable. In the south, there is evidence of an erosive process that decreases towards the north of the study area. Despite being the most urbanized, the beaches of Miramar are in equilibrium or in evident progradation. In addition, important changes were observed due to summer/winter seasonal cycles, as well as the recovery of beaches after post-storm periods. Regarding the granulometric composition of beaches, medium-sized sands predominate in Miramar while fine sands are present towards the south of the study area. Because of the absence of similar studies in the area, these results constitute an important contribution for the elaboration of a coastal management programme for the municipality.</p> ER -
